Meet Jenna Weis

Administrative Assistant

There is no doubting that 2020 has been a year of major changes. But if there is someone who knows how to adapt, it’s Jenna Weis.

Jenna joined the DSJ team in August and has taken no time at all adjusting to her new role: “I would hope to become more of an asset here. I think I’m doing a pretty good job. I’m still learning so much, but I’m finally getting a good grasp.” In her first few weeks, Jenna has proved herself a major resource to our admin team and the DSJ family as a whole. “Everyone is easy to work with. I’ve worked at places where it’s not very approachable; here, it’s very much a team effort. You can see the constant integration of everyone working together. It’s a lot of moving parts and everyone’s willing to help.” She enjoys the ins and outs of administrative work and learning the operations of a company; her favorite part of the job is “being behind the scenes and making sure things run smoothly… getting to the point where you know everything and how to run it.”

Jenna comes from a background of working in higher education administration. After graduating from Stony Brook University in 2014 with an Art History degree, she learned to work in art galleries. It was an interesting job, “but not what I expected,” she says. After a few years, she settled at Suffolk Community College doing administrative work before moving on to Adelphi University: “I liked helping the students and working with them too.”

When 2020 presented itself as a year of change, Jenna took it all in stride. Over the summer, she and now fiancé, Chris, got engaged. They have a small wedding ceremony and dinner planned in November, “We didn’t want to make a big fuss…. it’s almost COVID-proof!” Then, in August, she started a new career here at DSJ—another step in a series of new beginnings.

Jenna credits her mom with her ability to adapt, prioritize herself, and make the changes she wants to see in her life. “[My mom] inspired me to make myself a priority always. She says ‘if something doesn’t work for you, you can make things work for you. You don’t just have to roll over.”

Creating a fresh start for herself at DSJ has been one of those necessary changes for Jenna. “Coming to something like this was like that. I’ve never worked with CPAs but [my previous career] wasn’t working and so I made changes to align with getting married.”

The proud Long Islander currently lives in Mineola with fiancé, Chris, though, these days, they can typically be found at Jones Beach, “Chris and I go to the beach a lot, it’s my favorite part of living on Long Island.” She hopes to stay local, raise a family, and share all that she loves about Long Island with her kids someday. “My goal is to be married and have kids. I had a really good upbringing on Long Island, and I want to give that same experience to my future kids, especially here.”

For now, our optimistic, funny, and clever new team member is paving her own way and making the best of this crazy year!
