DSJ Tax Team Offseason – What Now?

Now that the April 18th deadline is among us, tax season is going to start winding down. Like athletes in their offseason, the period after the deadline for tax professionals is very similar. Most tax pros gave it all they had during this difficult filing season, using their skills and knowledge to be at peak performance to make filing go as smoothly as possible for clients. Now that the long hours and high velocity of work will being to wind down, it is time for tax professionals to slow down and prepare for next year’s tax season (as well as clear any outstanding work they may have).

Rest & Relaxation

During the busy and long hours of tax season, a lot of healthy habits can take a back seat. Many accountants find themselves too tired to get a workout in because of their work hours, ordering takeout every night to save time, and making many more adjustments to perform at their peak. Once the dust of tax season has settled, tax professionals find themselves getting back to doing what’s best for their well-being. These things can include packing a healthy lunch again, going for a jog, or maybe even finally scheduling that outing with friends.

Quality Family Time

Many accountants and tax professionals sacrifice a lot of time that could be spent with their loved ones during the tax season. After many professionals have worked months straight with no days off, getting back to dinner dates with your significant others or taking the kids to the movies again is always a great way to spend the time away from work that is so well deserved. Everyone knows how important family is and tax professionals are always grateful that their family tolerates their long hours and extra days in the office during tax season.

 Vacations

Tax professionals know how important it is to take some time off from their jobs to stay sharp and engaged. Many accountants will be taking advantage of their paid time off and escape the cubicle for a little while. Staying at the house is always a good way to decompress, but taking a vacation allows tax pros to let their minds escape thoughts of work. Whether they’re plopping themselves on a tropical beach somewhere or renting a cabin in the woods, the break allows for disconnection from work and  a reset that is very much needed by every tax professional.
